Montgomery Village resident Demari Brown, 18, and a 16-year-old suspect have been arrested and charged for their roles in a shootout that was reported in the 18800 block of Walkers Choice Road on Tuesday, March 7.

Shortly before 12:30 p.m. on the day of the shooting, officers responded to a call for shots fired, and upon arrival found Brown with a gunshot wound to his leg, and the teen, who was transported to the hospital with “serious injuries.”

During the investigation, the 16-year-old was first developed as a suspect, officials said.

He was ultimately located in the area and transported by police to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was charged as an adult with:

  • Two counts of attempted second-degree murder;
  • Two counts of first-degree assault;
  • Multiple firearm offenses.

Further investigation determined that Brown and the 16-year-old were engaged in a shootout, leading them to surveillance footage that showed the former brandishing a handgun during the incident.

An arrest warrant was obtained for Brown, police say, and he was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and multiple firearms-related charges. At the time he was arrested, Brown was in possession of a 9mm handgun, investigators noted.

Both teenagers are being held without bond. No return court information was provided by the police.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the shootout or either suspect has been asked to contact 6th District Investigative Section detectives at the Montgomery County Department of Police by calling (240) 773-5770.
